Hurricane Proof Homes – Coming to a New Development near You
The devastation that hurricane Katrina left behind is still being felt to this day and much of what man has built in the coastal areas of New Orleans were erased from memory by one strong storm. In fact, the hurricane was quite strong but the most damage came from the storm surge which caused levies to burst and overflowed, leaving much of the city in ruins. New technologies that have been developed to withstand such events are being showcased that have been undergoing testing and will be available to the public as soon as costs are brought down to more realistic levels. These homes are constructed on two levels, with the lower ones serving as the garage and storage space, able to give way to allow strong storm waters to pass by leaving the upper living quarters intact and out of harm’s way.
Even the lowly timber home is getting a face lift, propped on tall foundations that have been buried deeper and reinforced to withstand the strong winds and any floods. That is the way of nature, who cares less for what it can do to us for we ourselves have cared less for what our actions could do to her!
